Sony to close PS3 PlayStation Store, PS Vita PlayStation Store from August

The stores will be fully closed by July 2027.

Sony will close both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of the PlayStation Store beginning August 2026, it has today announced.

Starting in August, the stores will close in Mexico, Honduras, Nicaragua, followed by “Additional Latin American and Middle Eastern countries” in late 2026. The stores will close in all other countries in July 2027.

“That means new content purchases will no longer be possible once the PlayStation Store closes on these devices,” Sony’s Sid Shuman said in a statement. “To ease the transition, players will still be able to download previously purchased content after the closing date for the foreseeable future.”

The news comes as Sony also detailed it will stop producing its first-party games on physical discs. It also follows another announcement by Sony that detailed the more than 500 movies that were removed from users’ accounts after a licensing deal had lapsed.
