Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 not on Xbox Game Pass this year, new ad reminds us

Even more reasons not to buy the shooter on Xbox...

If a bunch of layoffs, reports of potential studio closures at Xbox, and another Xbox Series price increase wasn’t enough to make you steer clear of Microsoft’s games, maybe a new ad campaign that reminds you Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 isn’t on Xbox Game Pass this year will.

While Xbox already said that would be the case in April, a new ad really drives the point home. It states in big, bold, capital letters that the title is “NOT ON XBOX GAME PASS THIS YEAR”.

It also encourages players to pre-order to lock in campaign early access… and considering far more players have PlayStation consoles than Xbox consoles, I guess Microsoft may be encouraging players to pre-order on PS5.

Amidst rumours that Microsoft may be rethinking third-party agreements when it comes to Xbox Game Pass, it’s a bit surprising that it wouldn’t put its own first-party games on the subscription platform.

It’s also not surprising at the same time; Bloomberg reports that Microsoft lost around $300 million USD in revenue as a result of putting Call of Duty Black Ops 6 on Game Pass at launch.

Players can expect Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 from 23 October 2026 on Windows PC via Steam, Battle.net, and the Xbox app, alongside Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2.
