Layoffs start at Compulsion Games ahead of reported studio closure by Microsoft

Asha Sharma's "reset" has begun.

A number of layoffs have taken place at South of Midnight developer Compulsion Games ahead of a reported closure of the studio itself by Microsoft.

As Eurogamer reports, a number of studio employees have taken to LinkedIn to announce they’ve lost their job.

“After five unforgettable years at Compulsion, the time has come to look for a new adventure,” wrote Thomas de Rego, a former principal game designer at Compulsion.

“In an unexpected turn of events, I’ve officially turned on the ‘open to work’ banner,” added former principal level designer Mike Sklavounos.

Eurogamer specifically cites five additional posts alongside “at least five others” who didn’t post something specifically but who are looking for new roles.

Last week, it was reported that Microsoft was in the process of shutting down several of its studios including Compulsion Games, Senua’s Ninja Theory, and Psychonauts 2′s Double Fine.

The report followed a statement by new Xbox CEO Asha Sharma which warned of a “reset” within Xbox and its studios.

Microsoft has yet to comment on the matter.
