25 years in the making?
Xbox’s answer to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy is in the works and expected later in 2026, CEO Asha Sharma has confirmed.
When questioned on social media about how Xbox was “gonna solve the Platinum trophy equivalent with Achievements,” Sharma replied, “Team is working on something for later this year!”
Xbox Gamerscore came before PlayStation Trophies, but the latter provides a great sense of satisfaction — and closure — through the Platinum Trophy, which signifies that all of the base game’s original Trophies have been earned by a player. Over on Xbox, 1,000 Gamerscore in a game generally meant the same thing… but that was tarnished a bit through DLC and further Gamerscore.
Resident Evil 5 is one of near infinite examples of the Platinum Trophy working better than Gamerscore. Over on the Xbox, you can earn a total of 1,400 Gamerscore in the title… so even if you grabbed that initial 1,000 and nothing else, you look like you’ve slacked off. On PlayStation, a Platinum Trophy is earned and always will remain.
In the grand scheme of things, this is really a nothingburger, but it will delight those who love the chase. If you’re on the fence about things, maybe you’ll enjoy this article about being a Gamescore addict?
