Life is Strange True Colors dev Deck Nine layoffs impact 20% of staff

More layoffs.

Another day, another report of video game industry layoffs. This time, Life is Strange True Colors developer Deck Nine has confirmed it will layoff 20% of its workforce.

“Like many others in the games industry right now, Deck Nine has been affected by the games industry’s worsening market conditions,” the studio said in a statement. “Today we made the difficult decision to lay off 20% of our staff. These people are amazing, talented, and awesome developers.

“They have made a huge impact during their time at Deck Nine Games and we did not take this decision lightly. Please hire these people if you can, they’re amazing.”

Taking to Twitter, director Stephan Frost said that Deck Nine leadership took pay cuts to keep layoff numbers down.

“This is the strongest team [Deck Nine] has ever been and it absolutely sucks that the industry is in the state that it is presently,” Frost added.

More than 7,000 layoffs have rocked the video games industry in the first two months of 2024 alone. Impacted developers and publishers over 2023 and 2024 include PlayStation, Microsoft, Supermassive Games, Devolver, Eidos-Montreal, Riot Games, Thunderful Embracer and Gearbox, Twitch (again), Unity, Codemasters, 505 Games’ Digital Bros, Amazon, Bungie, Media Molecule, Ubisoft, Aussie studio League of Geeks, Versus Evil and many more.
