More layoffs at Codemasters, Embracer, Tinybuild

This is getting depressing.

A new wave of pre-holidays layoffs has hit the games industry, with staff at Codemasters, Tinybuild, and Embracer Groups’s Saber Interactive’s New World Interactive reportedly losing their jobs.

The Verge reports that Saber Interactive has laid off employees within New World Interactive, though the child studio will continue to work on Insurgency Sandstorm

“There have been restructuring changes involving the New World Interactive subsidiary,” Saber’s Arman Teimouri told the outlet. “Unfortunately, this reorganization has resulted in layoffs at the studio.”

The layoffs follow huge cuts at Saber Interactive’s parent company, Embracer Group.

Meanwhile, indie publisher Tinybuild will also lay off staff after a trading update that states it has been performing “below expectations” after “unusually weak trading in October”. Its solution is to take “accelerated cost action to re-align investments with expected revenues”; the number of Tinybuild employees who will be impacted is as yet unknown.

Finally, IGN reports that some at the EA-owned Codemasters will also lose their jobs.

“Our business is constantly changing as we strive to deliver amazing games and services that keep our players engaged, connected, and inspired,” an EA spokesperson told the outlet. “At times, this requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes that align our teams and resources to meet evolving business needs and priorities. We continue to work closely with those affected by these changes, providing appropriate support throughout this process.”

We’re sadly reporting on layoffs far more often than we’d like of late. Employees at organisations including 505 Games’ Digital BrosAmazonBungieMedia MoleculeUbisoft and many more have been impacted by layoffs within the last few months.
