But why?
The Last of Us Part 2 looks set to receive a PS5 remaster, at least according to the LinkedIn profile of a Naughty Dog staffer.
The developer in question originally had a LinkedIn profile (via Resetera) that stated he was “[r]esponsible for overseeing the productoin of all outsourced environment art assets, weapons and interactive props for two iconic titles The Last of Us: Part One and The Last of Us 2: Remastered.”
The LinkedIn profile in question has since been amended to remove the reference to The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered.
This isn’t the first time a reference to a remastered version of the PS4 game was mentioned; back in July of this year, composer Gustavo Santaolalla said a remastered version of Part 2 would allow more interaction with an in-game banjo.
A May 2021 patch added 60 frames-per-second (FPS) support to the PS4 title.
The news comes at a time Naughty Dog has reportedly laid off 25 contracted developers and has allegedly placed The Last of Us’ multiplayer game “on ice”.
The Last of Us Part 2 was first released on PS4 and is backwards compatible on PS5. We reviewed it here and wrote a series of guides that begin here.
