Resident Evil 4 Remake Preview: Hands-off with 10min of gameplay

Get hype?

Resident Evil 4 remake is just around the corner, and ahead of a demo AND the game’s release later this month, Stevivor was treated to between 10-15 minutes of gameplay footage.

Better still, we were able to pull together a 10 minute video package of content so you can check it out for yourself!

Capcom’s provided footage essentially took the form of three pieces of familiar-yet-not content: the underwater cavern sequence that follows an El Gigante fight, the castle with its catapults (including an encounter with Ramón Salazar) and Leon’s first knife fight with Krauser.

As two diehard aficionados of the original Resident Evil 4, both Ben Salter and myself delighted in a short analysis of what was presented. We’ve thrown a portion of that over some edited content, below. More in-depth thoughts will be shared during next week’s Friendly Fire Show podcast.

Simply put, this version of Resident Evil 4 looks like we remember the original GameCube looking; while that’s absolutely not true, it’s not the drastic change that excited gamers when it came to the PSone’s Resident Evil 2 and last-gen’s Resident Evil 2 remake. This is more like EA Motive’s Dead Space: the same, but different. Leon’s got a new more moves up his sleeve including a knife parry, Ashley’s potentially easier to manage… and we spotted new shootable Blue emblems alongside new (yet similar) puzzles.

As you can see in the footage above, Leon’s first in-game encounter with Krauser has changed from a cutscene with a couple quicktime events to a full-blown playable event. Howzat?

We encourage you to check out the footage above… and if that wasn’t enough, we were able to take screencaps of all the videos, so here’s me going crazy. Enjoy!

The Resident Evil 4 remake will be available on Windows PC via Steam, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 from 24 March 2023; there’s still no word as to when to expect its promised demo.
