Resident Evil 4 demo coming soon (alongside suplexes and Mercenaries)

Rejoice!

Today’s PlayStation State of Play gave us some more Resident Evil 4 remake news, including an upcoming demo alongside the inclusion of in-game suplexes and the Mercenaries mode.

First, the trailer itself showed off quite a lot of the game itself, including Luis joining Leon for a traincart sequence (!), the tease of a big knife fight with Krauser (!), Leon pulling off an aforementioned suplex, and that one damn section with Ashley. Returning players know what I mean by that.

Truthfully, Resident Evil 4 is starting to look more like a faithful Dead Space-style remake instead of the rather drastic departure from original material as seen with Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 remakes. We’re here for it.

At any rate, the trailer also confirmed we’re getting a “special demo” ahead of the game’s 24 March release, so that must be coming sooner rather than later. It also confirmed the return of Mercenaries mode, so hopefully there aren’t too many Achievements or Trophies tied to that.

Update: Capcom has confirmed that Mercenaries mode will be a free, post-launch add-on.

“The popular extra game mode that appears throughout the Resident Evil series will also appear in RE4,” Capcom wrote on the PlayStation Blog. “The team is hard at work on The Mercenaries, which will be available as free post-launch DLC.”

The Resident Evil 4 remake will be available on Windows PC via Steam, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 from 24 March 2023.
