Sony: “No evidence that there was any intrusion into our network”

CNET reported last week that hacker group DerpTrolling had pulled off a successful intrusion into Windows Live, 2K and PlayStation Network servers, subsequently releasing a Pastebin document containing “usernames and passwords for 2,131 PSN users; 1,473 Windows Live users; and 2,000 2K Games users.”

However, a spokesperson from Sony told Joystiq that “We have investigated the claims that our network was breached and have found no evidence that there was any intrusion into our network,” adding “[u]nfortunately, Internet fraud including phishing and password matching are realities that consumers and online networks face on a regular basis. We take these reports very seriously and will continue to monitor our network closely.”

CNET has updated its original story to state that the leak by DerpTrolling may have been faked and that the data may have been recycled from previous leaks. It’s still advisable for users to change their passwords, just in case.
