Sony to remaster 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn for PS5: report

Get ready to dip back into that wallet?

Sony is at work on allegedly remastering 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn for PS5, a new report from MP1st suggests.

The PS4 title is already backwards compatible on PS5 and features a performance patch that allows players to run at a stable 60FPS (frames-per-second) with 2160p checkerboarding resolution.

The remaster would be separate from the PS4 title of course, and styled in the same vein of the recent The Last of Us Part 1 in that character models, textures and improved animations found within PS5’s Horizon Forbidden West would be leveraged in the earlier title.

Accessibility options found within Forbidden West would also be introduced into this new version of Zero Dawn, the report also alleges.

The site also suggests that developer Guerrilla Games is working on a multiplayer Horizon title for both PS5 and PC.

Sony’s history of re-releasing PS4 titles onto PS5 is curious. An upgrade to Ghost of Tsushima called Director’s Cut was priced at $30 AUD when moving from PS4 to PS5; in another vein, the aforementioned The Last of Us Part 1 was considered by Stevivor as a “re-remaster” and came with a full $125 AUD price tag on PS5. While nothing has been confirmed, of course, the nature of MP1st’s report sounds to us like Sony would take a Last of Us Part 1-style approach to this new alleged release.

What do you make of this report? Is Sony justified in re-releasing a game from 2017 with (presumably) a full price tag? Sound off in the comments area below.
