PS5 internal, external storage options detailed by Sony

Sony has detailed PS5 internal and external storage options alongside a look at the next-gen console’s full specs list.

While the Xbox Series X will make use of a 1TB Non-Volatile Memory Express (NVMe) SSD and proprietary 1TB Expansion Drives (alongside USB drives for older games), the PS5 will sport a 825GB SSD and the option to expand with M.2 NVMe SSDs.

Sony will have to certify each compatible M.2 NVMe SSD that will work with the PS5; Mark Cerny said these certifications will come “a bit past” the console’s launch. USB external hard drives will also be supported in some capacity.

We’ve compared the PS5’s specs to the Xbox Series X’s specs here.
