Miles was supposed to have a symbiote in Spider-Man 2

So says Venom.

Miles Morales was supposed to have a symbiote suit alongside Peter Parker in Spider-Man 2, Venom voice actor Tony Todd has recently confirmed.

Spoilers follow, so continue reading at your own risk.

Speaking alongside Miles voice actor Nadji Jeter at the Fan Expo San Francisco (via Twitter’s Evan Filarca), Todd said he recorded far more lines than made it into Spider-Man 2 itself. According to Todd, around 10% of his recorded dialogue saw the light of day.

Included amongst the work left on the cutting room floor, according to Todd, was a bunch of scenes that revolved around Miles wearing a symbiote suit of his own. It’s unclear if the symbiote in question was Venom, or if it could have been Carnage, a second symbiote essentially teased as part of Spider-Man 2‘s Flame questline.

While Spider-Man 2 has certainly set the stage for more including both Venom and Carnage, it also has essentially retired Peter Parker as Spider-Man, meaning Miles would be our primary hero moving forward. Speaking at the same event, Nadji Jeter told fans he was “ready” to lead.

“It’s gonna be crazy,” Jeter said, via Filarca.

We reviewed Spider-Man 2 earlier in the year and commended it for its technical prowess and storytelling.

“In this iteration — as in every other — Insomniac gets it,” I wrote. “This is the core of Spider-Man merged with the direction of Miles Morales and continually moving the story forward in intense, highly-stylised fashion. It’s second to none in that respect.”

Tony Todd’s no stranger to telling all — he in fact was the actor that have us a solid idea of when to expect Spider-Man 2 itself. He’s also a horror icon, in case you didn’t know, starring as the iconic Candyman and in films like Night of the Living Dead.

Spider-Man 2 is currently available on PS5.
