Coronavirus cancellations: Kojima at GDC, Overwatch League

The threat of the novel coronavirus has struck again, this time causing cancellations at GDC and inside the Overwatch League.

First, Kojima Productions confirmed it would not be attending GDC 2020 over concerns about the virus.

“Kojima Productions has made the difficult decision to cancel our participation at the 2020 Game Developers Conference due to increasing concerns related to novel coronavirus,” a statement reads. “Although much-anticipated, unfortunately this cancellation also includes Hideo Kojima’s session on the 19th and Eric Johnson’s session on the 16th.”

Next, the Overwatch League has cancelled matches in Seoul, South Korea.

“In order to protect the health & safety of our players, fans, & staff, we are canceling plans to host [Overwatch League 2020] matches in South Korea in Weeks 5, 6, and 7, including the [Seoul Dynasty] home event,” a tweet reads. “We’ll share more info about when and where matches will take place at a later.”

Other activites impacted by the novel coronavirus include Sony cancelling planned activities at PAX East, Square Enix cancelling plans at PAX East, Switch stocks, the Switch release of The Outer Worlds and the Taipei Game Show.
