xCloud iOS beta available in Q2 2021, says Microsoft

Alongside Australia's inclusion into Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Cloud Streaming proper.

An xCloud iOS beta will return to the mobile platform in the second quarter of 2021, Microsoft has today confirmed.

“In Spring 2021, we will take the next step in our journey to reach more players around the world by making cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate available on Windows PCs through the Xbox app and browser, and iOS devices through mobile web browser,” Microsoft said in a new update.

The browser-based solution means more devices than ever will be able to access the game streaming service.

“By adding over a billion devices as a path to playing in the Xbox ecosystem, we envision a seamless experience for all types of players,” the update continued, “whether it’s playing Minecraft Dungeons with your Xbox friends using touch controls on an iPhone, or jumping into a Destiny 2: Beyond Light strike on a Surface Pro when you have a break between meetings.”

Spring 2021 in the northern hemisphere runs between March and June, so we can expect the functionality long before the release of Halo Infinite later in the year.

The update also confirmed that Australia will leave the xCloud Preview Program and enter the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Cloud Streaming program around the same time.

“Finally, we’ll bring cloud gaming with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to new markets, including Australia, Brazil, Japan and Mexico, where we recently began our limited Project xCloud preview program,” it continued.

If you’re on an Android device and keen to try out xCloud in Australia, you can sign up for the special preview here.
