Xbox expanding to non-English speaking markets is a ‘top priority’

Cloud gaming in new markets is key for Microsoft.

Xbox wants to reach new consumers who have never played an Xbox or Windows game before. As well as being accessible on more devices through Cloud Gaming, it wants to expand its geographic reach, specifically into non-English speaking markets, where it has traditionally focused its attention.

“Extending our Xbox footprint globally beyond English speaking markets is one of our top priorities, and cloud is a big part of that,” said Head of Xbox Phil Spencer speaking about the future of gaming at Microsoft.

With Cloud Gaming coming to more devices, expanding to new regions is no longer reliant on hardware sales.

While PlayStation and Nintendo consoles have always been successful in Japan and across Europe, Xbox has tended to target the US and other predominantly English-speaking nations as its primary markets.
