Xbox adds new boot animation, Gamerscore badges, and library filters

Only for Insiders at present.

Xbox has tweaked its UI for Xbox Insiders, adding a new boot animation and sound, Gamerscore badges, and library filters.

New Xbox boot animation and sound

“We’ve updated the console boot up experience with a new animation and sound, featuring the new Xbox logo with the signature green players know so well,” Microsoft said in a statement. “You’ll see and hear the update when you power on your console, bringing a refreshed look and feel from the moment you jump in.”

You can see the new boot logo at the top of this post.

New Xbox Gamerscore badges

Next, new Gamerscore badges will let players show off their virtual prowess. Badges will denote earned Gamerscore at the following tiers:

  • 1,000
  • 3,000
  • 5,000
  • 10,000
  • 20,000
  • 35,000
  • 50,000
  • 75,000
  • 100,000
  • 200,000
  • 500,000
  • 1,000,000
  • 3,000,000
  • 5,000,000
  • 10,000,000

At present, there are only around 200 players with 5,000,000 Gamerscore, with critics suggesting those players have finished off quite a lot of shovelware to get to a number that high. No one at present has earned 10,000,000 Gamerscore, so Microsoft is keeping that particular badge under wraps for now.

New Xbox library filters

Finally, new filters will allow players to “separate games you own from those shared with you and identify installed titles you no longer have access to.”

We’ll let you know when this functionality moves from the Xbox Insider ring to all players with an Xbox. Until then, what do you think about the changes?
