Marathon will add “experimental” PvE modes from Season 2

Don't like PvPvE? This takes out that extra P.

Marathon will add two “experimental” PvE, or player versus enemy, modes in its second season, removing player versus player action for those who don’t like *checks notes* the core of the extraction shooter.

“In Season 2, we will be experimenting with two modes, one at the beginning of the season and one towards the middle/latter half of the season,” game director Joe Ziegler said as part of a far later update.

“The experimental mode at the beginning of the season will focus more on PVE, but with a light touch of PVP,” Ziegler continued.

“The second experimental mode will be a PVE-only mode that’s focused on crews being tasked with completing objectives together and making some progress across matches.”

On the flipside, Ziegler added that Bungie will continue with other experimental modes, including those that are “perhaps… more purely PVP-focused” as time progresses.

Season 2 kicks off on 3 June here in Australia and also adds a new Night Marsh zone, new weapons, a new Runner shell, and enhanced progression systems based on player feedback.

Marathon is available on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5. We reviewed it here.
