Xbox 360 gets cloud saves for all ahead of Xbox Series S & X

It'll be easy to bring your games over to next-gen, even if you're not an Xbox Live subscriber.

The Xbox 360 will offer cloud saves without the need for an Xbox Live Gold subscription, making it incredibly easy to move your files over to Xbox Series S & X at their launch next month.

“For those of you still enjoying Xbox 360, cloud saves will soon be free to all Xbox 360 users, making transferring your favorite games to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S even easier,” Microsoft today advised in a blog post.

Regardless of your subscription level, soon everyone playing an Xbox 360 title will be able to move their console-based game saves over into cloud storage. Xbox One titles do this automatically, and every single save file in the cloud will be picked up on Xbox Series S or X without any further work. Instructions on how to use the Xbox 360 cloud storage system are here.

The new functionality seems to be a subtle dig at Sony, who only offer PS4 cloud storage for PlayStation Plus subscribers. As detailed last week, players will need to subscribe to PS Plus and use the cloud system — or use external drives or LAN cables — to move PS4 saves over to the PS5 and backwards compatibility.
