Ubisoft CEO says there’s two more years until a new console generation

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot believes there are two more years until we’ll see a new generation of consoles from Sony and Microsoft.

“As Sony launched PlayStation 4 Pro last year and Microsoft Xbox One X this year, we think we still have a minimum of two years in front of us before something new is coming,” Guillemot said in a recent investor’s call (via GameSpot).

Guillemot added that this is merely the “perception” of Ubisoft, and that the publisher doesnt’ “have any confidential information on that front.” So take the estimation with a grain of salt.

This console generation is the first in a while to see half-steps — the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S have taken existing hardware and enabled HDR and 4K upscaling, while the Xbox One X offers native 4K. Guillemot thinks this evolutionary approach is best.

Guillemot said Ubisoft thinks this notion of upgrading “is going in the right direction rather than trying to do accessories or other things,” and “help the industry a lot because the games will be really beautiful on those machines.”

Both the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X are available now.
