Star Wars Battlefront’s X-Wing VR mission is based on Rogue One

Star Wars Battlefront’s upcoming X-Wing Virtual Reality DLC will be based on Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

It’s the first game content to be based on a Star Wars Anthology spin-off film. Rogue One, which hits cinemas on December 16, is the first of an expected many. It will be followed by a young Han Solo spin-off film in 2018, and an unannounced Anthology movie in 2020.

It’s not clear how the VR mission will tie in with the events of the film, but you’ll pilot an X-Wing to help Jyn Erso and her crew steal the plans for the Death Star. There’s also talk of “dabbling” with a Star Destroyer.

With DICE busy on other projects, the VR content has been developed by Criterion and will be a free update for Star Wars Battlefront on PlayStation 4; but you’ll need a PSVR headset. The first shipment is sold out in Australia, but EB Games is still taking pre-orders for a second shipment of the $550 headsets, expected to be available before the end of 2016.
