Spider-Man exclusive to Avengers on PS4, PS5

The Avengers are no match for their greatest foe: shitty platform exclusivity deals.

Spider-Man will be an exclusive hero inside Avengers on both PS4 and PS5 in 2021, Crystal Dynamics and Sony have today confirmed.

The hero — not the same Spider-Man as seen within Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man on PS4 — will be added to the PlayStation versions of the game next year. The hero is exclusive to PlayStation, meaning those on Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X miss out entirely.

“When Spider-Man comes to our stable of heroes, we’ll be marking his debut with an in-game event that will introduce him to the wider world of Marvel’s Avengers,” Crystal Dynamics’ Jeff Adams wrote on the PlayStation Blog.

“The event is comprised of a series of unique challenges for the hero to take on, testing his abilities, and yielding some exciting results.  And like the rest of our heroes in Marvel’s Avengers, we will offer multiple cosmetic outfits and gameplay experience options, so you can make your vision of the wall crawler a reality.”

Spider-Man will be the second hero added to the game after launch; thankfully, all versions of the game will receive Hawkeye this year.

Avengers heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4 from 4 September and will release on Xbox Series X and PS5 when the consoles are released. A series of betas take place over this month.
