Sea of Thieves unavailable to Xbox Game Pass subscribers

Update: The issue has been resolved, Rare has advised.

“We’ve now resolved the issue with Game Pass players’ access to the game,” Rare wrote. “Players should now be able to get into the game, if you’re not able to get in immediately, please try again soon.”

Original story: Sea of Thieves is currently inaccessible to Xbox Game Pass subscribers, developer Rare has recently confirmed.

“Our team are currently investigating an issue affecting Game Pass players and are working to resolve it as soon as possible,” the game’s official Twitter advised. “We’ll update you as soon as we can.”

While players can pay a full retail price (for what we reviewed as less than half a game), most players are likely accessing the title through the Xbox Game Pass subscription program, which provides access to a library of over 100 Xbox 360 and Xbox One titles on Xbox One. Games Pass subscribers also have access to Sea of Thieves on Windows PC through the scheme and Xbox Play Anywhere.

With a 14-day trial of Xbox Game Pass on offer, this downtime is surely eating into a player’s potential playtime.

We’ll update you on Xbox Game Pass access to Sea of Thieves as information is made available.
