Rockstar abandons Agent trademark

Rockstar has abandoned its Agent trademark, dashing hopes we’d eventually see the game.

DualShockers was the first to notice Rockstar has officially abandoned the Agent trademark with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. According to the trademark’s listing, it was abandoned because “no Statement of Use or Extension Request timely filed after Notice of Allowance was issued,” by Rockstar.

Agent was announced by Rockstar Games as a PS3 exclusive way back at E3 2009 after a confirmation by Sony in 2007 that the developer was working on a PlayStation-exclusive title. The E3 2009 announcement would be one of the last (if not the last) time the developer actually used the expo to announce news.

The trademark was renewed back in 2014, prompting many to believe the game would be unveiled at E3 that year. Alas, nothing of the sort happened and Agent itself looks to have faded away to nothing.

Rockstar is unlikely to comment on the matter, but we’ll keep you posted if we learn more.
