PlayStation Plus price increases to hit some regions

Subscription fees for Sony’s PlayStation Plus service are set to increase in several regions.

An email from a Sony representative sent to Joystiq read, “We slightly increased prices for PlayStation Plus in South Africa, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and India regions due to various market conditions.” The email confirmed that Sony is not looking to increase the fee in North America at this time.

Sony’s confirmation follows a report from iAfrica about subscribers in South Africa receiving an email advising that prices would rise within 24 hours. The price of a 3-month subscription in the region is due to rise from R145 to R219, a 51% increase. A yearly subscription will rise from R489 to R749, a 53% increase.

There’s been no word on if those “various market conditions” will affect prices here in Australia.
