Original Bayonetta voice actor confirms pay dispute reports

Taylor returns to Twitter with the "need to defend" herself.

Original Bayonetta voice actor Hellena Taylor has taken to Twitter to confirm reports she was offered approximately $15,000 USD, and not $4,000 USD, to voice the character in Bayonetta 3.

Taylor took to Twitter earlier this month to ask fans to boycott the title over what she claimed was an offer of just $4,000 USD to reprise her role.

Days later, reports from Bloomberg and VGC said PlatinumGames actually offered $15,000 USD before a counter offer from Taylor that extended into a six-figure range. Platinum decided to drop Taylor and instead offered the role to Mass Effect‘s Jennifer Hale.

Today, Taylor has returned to Twitter to confirm that the reporting was correct.

“It has come to my attention that some people are calling me a liar and golddigger. I feel the need to defend myself and my reputation in the industry,” she began.

“As I posted on part three of my video thread. I explained that their first offer was too low. That offer was 10,000 dollars total,” she continued in a longer thread. “Remember, this is 450 million dollar franchise, (not counting merchandise.) I then wrote in Japanese to Hideki Kamiya, asking for what I was worth. I thought that as a creative, he would understand. He replied saying how much he valued my contribution to the game and how much the fans wanted me to voice the game. I was then offered an extra 5,0000 [sic]!”

Bayonetta 3 heads to Nintendo Switch on 28 October.
