No Virtual Console on Switch at launch, day one update adds eShop and online features

As we expected, there will be no Virtual Console support on Switch at launch, and you’ll need to download an update to access digital content from the eShop.

The day one update implements all online functionality. It’s required for online gameplay (although there’s not much of that yet), the ability to share images to social media and to link a Nintendo Account to the system, which you can setup right now. The update can be downloaded in the background, so you can get cracking in Breath of the Wild while it’s being prepared.

The Switch will have an online store that can be accessed on other devices. Once you’ve updated your Switch and visited the eShop, you’ll be able to make purchases from Nintendo.com and automatically have them download on your Switch console.

Nintendo still hasn’t detailed any plans for classic games on Switch. All we know is Virtual Console won’t be available on March 3, and have no idea when we can expect more information.
