According to a post from Official Xbox Magazine the upcoming Halo: Escalation comic may shed light on the events immediately after Halo 4 and prior to Halo 5.
A short description of the plot of the comic — from Comic Book Resources — reads, “The Master Chief returns in “The Next 72 Hours: Part 1”! After defeating the Didact, John-117 joined the crew of Infinity . . . but why did he leave? The mystery begins here.”
The comic goes on sale 23 July so it’s a long wait to find out the what and why of it all. It should be noted that E3 will have come and gone by the time the comic is released, so we may already know much more about Halo 5 by then.
