EA isn’t holding an E3 2019 press conference

Update: EA today confirmed it will move planned livestreams to 8 June in Los Angeles, likely 9 June in Australian time. Moreover, EA’s Creator’s Cave will be host content creators doing their own livestreams throughout that same weekend.

Original story: EA has today confirmed it will not be holding a press conference during E3 2019, instead focusing on player experiences within its own EA Play event.

“This year you’ll see less talk and more play, with an event entirely focused on the heartbeat of EA Play: our player communities and the games they love,” a post on the EA blog reads.

“We’re skipping the press conference this year and are replacing it with multiple live streams that will air during the first two days of the event, bringing you more of what you’ve told us you want: more gameplay and insights from the teams making the games.”

EA already had dropped out of E3 2019 proper in favour of its own EA Play event, but this announcement continues the trend of publishers removing themselves from the spectacle in favour of their own, curated offerings.

Last year, Sony confirmed it will not take part in E3 2019. “The world has changed, but E3 hasn’t necessarily changed with it. And with our decision to do fewer games, bigger games, over longer periods of time, we got to a point where June of 2019 was not a time for us to have a new thing to say,” Sony’s Shawn Layden said, explaining Sony’s decision.

What do you make of EA’s announcement? Its EA Play event will take place over 7-9 June in Los Angeles, California.
