Don’t expect major first-party releases on PlayStation until March 2025

Maybe Microsoft will fill the gap?

Sony has used its latest financials report to declare that it won’t release any major first-party releases on PlayStation until March 2025.

“Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games, but, while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarökand Marvelʼs Spider-Man,” said Sony President, COO, and CFO Hiroki Totoki.

As we’ve previously reported, Totoki will replace PlayStation head Jim Ryan as interim CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment on 1 April.

While Totoki’s statement may dismay PlayStation players, there’s still quite a lot to look forward to in terms of third-party support. Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a PS5 exclusive coming later this month, and is followed by other third-party exclusives including Silent Hill 2Rise of the Ronin, and Stellar Blade.

On top of that, rumours are swirling that Xbox’s Microsoft is planning multi-platform releases for a number of its titles including Hi-Fi RushSea of ThievesStarfield, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Microsoft will take to its Xbox Podcast tomorrow to address the rumours.
