A Spider-Man puddlegate group is suggesting that the game has seen a graphics downgrade, causing Insomniac Games to directly refute those claims.
It all stared with a Reddit post that has caused users to fight over the size of a puddle seen in a particular in-game sequence. The E3 2018 version of the puddle is larger than the puddle seen in the release version of the game.
Users have taken to Twitter to suggest the puddle size variation is indicative of a graphical downgrade. Insomniac and Community Manager, James Stevenson, have taken to the social media platform to address concerns, calling them unfounded.
@insomniacgames @JamesStevenson @bryanintihar What’s with the downgrade yet again? #SpiderManPS4

I told you the puddle was moved. That isn’t the issue. Shadows move to when you change the lighting. As does what detail appears. And compression does crush fine detail. The suit texture appears no problem on the TV, but is lost by video compression

What do you make of this?
We’re playing through Spider-Man right now, but sadly, any comment on the game’s look and feel would violate embargo conditions. You’ll have to wait until next week for our thoughts.
Spider-Man is a PS4 exclusive due 7 September.
