How to install Halo Infinite Multiplayer

Stuck? We've got you covered!

Halo Infinite multiplayer is now live and this post will detail how you can download the free title to start playing.

Multiplayer is free-to-play, unlike the game’s main single-player campaign, so has its own way of being accessed. Here’s what to do:

How to install Halo Infinite multiplayer on Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X

  1. Go to the Microsoft Store on your Xbox and search for “Halo”
  2. You should see a tile for the single-player campaign (Halo Infinite with just Master Chief) and another for the multiplayer (Halo Infinite Multiplayer with five Spartans). Click on the latter.

  • You’ll be asked to choose another option (see image at top). Pick the free option.
  • You should be then prompted to install.

At present, we can download a 280MB file that doesn’t prompt for further updates; we’ve also had the same luck trying to download via Xbox.com using similar instructions to what’s above. We’ve asked Microsoft for clarification.

Update: Microsoft is aware of the problem.

“Please be patient, Spartans! We’re aware of an issue where players are hitting a blue screen upon trying to launch [Halo Infinite],” a post on Twitter reads. “Beta build is working through our systems and should hit your console as an update shortly. We’re working as hard as we can to get you in the game.”

If you keep trying to launch the game, you’ll eventually be prompted for a 25.9 GB update… or if you’re impatient, you can certainly head on over to Steam if you want to jump in straight away.

Update 2: Microsoft has advised that the issue should be resolved; restart your console if you’re still having trouble downloading the 25.9 GB update.

This one’s a little easier.

  • Search for Halo Infinite
  • Choose the free to play option
  • Follow the prompts

Voila! The install is around 26 GB on PC.

Halo Infinites single-player heads to Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series S & X from 8 December, also part of Xbox Game Pass. Multiplayer is available — for free — right now!
