Here’s the Xbox Series Quick Resume functionality at work

The Xbox Series S & X Quick Resume functionality promised the world, able to bounce between games as you left them with hardly any interruption. Today, Stevivor has concluded it lives up to its word.

We put Quick Resume through its paces, not only testing a handful of Xbox One backwards compatible games, but Xbox 360 games too. We’re trying to be careful not to show off too much of the Xbox Series X UI, as per our Preview Program embargo conditions, but tested the feature with the following titles, most seen in the video below:

  • The Outer Worlds
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • Resident Evil 3
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Alan Wake (Xbox 360)
  • Halo Reach (Xbox 360)
  • Journey to the Savage Planet
  • Alien Isolation
  • Doom Eternal

Quick Resume worked flawlessly, and in the case of Xbox One games, took us from one to another while pausing the title in question to help us get our bearings. On Xbox 360, the game just loaded as we left it, usually without pausing first unless we were mindful to do that when we switched to another. It’s also very important to note that we’ve fully shutdown and restarted our Xbox Series X multiple times today, and despite that, the console has picked up our game from where we last suspended it.

You can take a look at Xbox Series Quick Resume in action below. We’re having a bit of trouble capturing 360 titles today, so we’ll be sure to add a second video bouncing between generations when we can. Update: We’ve been able to throw Xbox 360’s Halo Reach into the rotation — a new video is below.

The Xbox Series S and X head to store shelves on 10 November. Head to our Xbox Series X Preview in progress for more.
