The Xbox One doesn’t get local servers in Australia… yet.

So, it turns out we all jumped the gun with the assumption we’re getting local Xbox One servers next week as part of Microsoft’s new Australian Azure server infrastructure.

“We know Xbox Live local servers are extremely important to our fans,” a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed with Stevivor. “We want to deliver the best gaming experience possible for Australians. We’re working on it, and should have good news to share in the coming weeks.”

So, this is pure conjecture, but we take that to mean we could have local servers as part of this new Azure infrastructure, but more work is needed to be done before that happens.

Xbox Live is currently running off an Azure cloud platform of around 300,000 servers. New Azure data centres are coming online in Melbourne and Sydney next week.
