Xbox’s Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb leaving Microsoft after 22 years

We're sad to see you go, Major.

Xbox’s Larry ‘Major Nelson’ Hryb has announced he’ll be leaving Microsoft after 22 years as Xbox’s primary ambassador.

“After 20 incredible years, I have decided to take a step back and work on the next chapter of my career,” Hryb said in an announcement.

Hryb started at Microsoft as Editor-in-Chief of MSN Music back in 2001 before shifting over to Xbox in 2003. He’s worn many hats with Xbox, including perhaps his most memorable and to-the-public stint as Director of Programming for Xbox Live.

“As I take a moment and think about all we have done together, I want to thank the millions of gamers around the world who have included me as part of their lives,” he continued. “Also, thanks to Xbox team members for trusting me to have a direct dialogue with our customers. The future is bright for Xbox and as a gamer, I am excited to see the evolution.”

Hryb also confirmed that the Official Xbox Podcast, which he hosts, will “be taking a hiatus this Summer and will come back in a new format”.

We had the chance to speak with Hryb during his visit to PAX AUS back in 2016; you can revisit the interview here.

Hryb hasn’t said what’s next, but we wish him the best of luck with whatever that may be.
