Xbox reportedly shutting down South of Midnight’s Compulsion Games

Looks like Xbox's "reset" is in full swing.

Xbox is reportedly in the process of shutting down South of Midnight‘s Compulsion Games, with Kotaku reporting the studio is currently in “negotiations” with Microsoft in an attempt to stay afloat.

Confirming that it published its report after those within the studio had heard the news, Kotaku added that a number of employees at Compulsion Games have taken to social media looking for new jobs.

Xbox head Asha Sharma and chief content officer Matt Booty have both praised the Peabody Award-winning studio in recent times.

South of Midnight today won a Peabody Award, which I think is such a validation of the storytelling capability of games these days,” Booty told Game File.

“And that’s right on the heels of them winning a BAFTA for new IP a couple Fridays ago. And, that is our goal,” he continued, adding, “we’re also dedicated to places where new [intellectual property] can come to life and where these stories can be told, you know, in our studios like Compulsion.”

Kotaku estimates that at least 90 positions will be impacted by this reported closure.

Earlier today, it was reported that Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan has stepped down ahead of reported layoffs within Microsoft’s Xbox division.
