Yikes.
Xbox head Phil Spencer has hinted at Xbox console, game and subscription price increases after the holiday period.
As reported by The Verge’s Tom Warren, Spencer made the comments speaking at WSJ Tech Live 2022.
“I do think at some point we’ll have to raise the prices on certain things, but going into this holiday we thought it was important to maintain the prices,” Spencer said.
“We’ve held price on our console, we’ve held price on games… and our subscription,” he continued. “I don’t think we’ll be able to do that forever. I do think at some point we’ll have to raise some prices on certain things…”
Both Microsoft and Nintendo were adamant earlier this year that the pricing of the Xbox Series S & X or Switch consoles, respectively, wouldn’t see a price hike following Sony’s decision to raise the price of the PS5 by $50 AUD.
We’ll keep you informed as we learn more, and have asked Microsoft for further comment.
