Xbox 360 store to shut down July 2024; owned content is safe

Good news and bad news.

The Xbox 360 store will shut down on 29 July 2024, Microsoft has today advised, also stressing that players’ owned content is safe and sound.

“On July 29, 2024, Xbox will stop supporting the ability to purchase new games, DLC, and other entertainment content from the Xbox 360 Store on the console and the Xbox 360 Marketplace,” Microsoft’s Dave McCarthy said. “Between now and July 2024, you can continue purchasing games and DLC from the Xbox 360 Store and at the Xbox 360 Marketplace.”

McCarthy was quick to point out that the “change will not affect your ability to play Xbox 360 games or DLC you have already purchased”.

“Xbox 360 game content previously purchased will still be available to play,” he continued, “not only [on] the Xbox 360 console but also [on] Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S devices via backward compatibility.”

Microsoft has stated that technology “has evolved” between the Xbox 360 and current Xbox stores, with Microsoft’s focus now on “making the Xbox Series X|S the best place to play now and in the future”.
