Windows 11 coming this holiday, free to Windows 10 users

Here's what to expect.

Windows 11 has been announced for a holiday 2021 release, Microsoft declared overnight. What’s more, the operating system will be available to all Windows 10 users at no charge.

Minimum hardware requirements for Windows 11 were also detailed — compatible PCs need a 64-bit CPU, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage a 9″ display with 720p resolution and a graphics card compatible with DirectX12 and WDDM 2.x.

When available, Windows 11 will be rolled out to compatible PCs through Windows Update.

The new operating system comes with a host of new or redesigned features including a centred Start menu, improved Microsoft Store, overhauled UI with softer visuals and rounded corners, the ability to snap apps easier than ever, a host of gaming features and access to Android apps through Amazon’s Appstore. Features like Microsoft’s Teams and Xbox Game Pass will be fully integrated as well.
