Will male Viera be playable in Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers?

Update 2: Sadly, the Tokyo Fan Festival was used to confirm that the Viera will be a female-only race.

Update: Speaking with Stevivor at a press conference, Producer Naoki Yoshida said that fans will have to wait until Shadowbreakers‘ Tokyo reveal event for more information about male Viera.

That might be a great thing — Stevivor asked if male Viera would be playable or appear as NPCs at the very least, and Yoshida declined to comment on either situation. That suggests a positive reveal is planned for March.

Stay tuned!

Original story: Today’s Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest opening ceremony confirmed its newest playable race in the Viera, but fans are now left wondering if male Viera will feature in the MMORPG.

The Viera were shown off in a new trailer alongside concept art, and every piece of content displayed featured female-only Viera. While male Viera exist in the Final Fantasy franchise, they’re few and far between.

The Viera were floated as a playable race for the Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward expansion, but were instead replaced by the Au Ra. During development, however, fans were shown concept art of male and female Viera.

Stevivor will take part in an exclusive FFXIV press conference later today — we’ll do our best to discuss male Viera with Producer Naoki Yoshida. We’ll update this story as we learn more.

Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers heads to Windows PC and PS4 on 2 July 2019.

Steve Wright was flown by Square Enix to attend the FFXIV Fan Festival. Flights and accommodation were paid by Square Enix.
