What happened between 2013’s reboot and Rise of the Tomb Raider?

One of the few issues I had with Rise of the Tomb Raider was the seeming lack of any connection with 2013’s reboot of the franchise.

However, apparently there is a comic book series, written by Rhianna Pratchett and Gail Simone, that fills int he gaps and was written for the explicit purpose of bridging the two games. Pratchett was the co-writer on Tomb Raider and lead writer on Rise while Simone is best known for her work on Birds of Prey, Batgirl and Wonder Woman.

The series ran for 18 issues from 2014 into 2015 and is described by publisher Darkhorse as follows.

Lara and the other survivors of the Endurance are experiencing horrific visions after their ordeal in the Lost Kingdom of Yamatai. But the visions lead to a darker fate . . . can Lara survive the calamities that await her as she struggles to piece this new mystery, and her life, back together?

The series is available to purchase from Darkhorse and Comixology. If, like me, you’re keen to find out what happened to Lara after the events of Yamatai you might want to pick these up. I know I will be.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is available now for Xbox 360 and Xbox One. You can read our review here.
