Ubisoft closes two studios, lays off hundreds of staff

The layoffs continue.

Ubisoft has closed down two studios and laid off hundreds of staff within the company, reports have detailed.

First, a report from Insider Gaming has focused on the layoffs of 51 employees at Ubisoft Barcelona. On LinkedIn, Ubisoft Paris programmer Mataoui Chakib Souleyman stated that layoffs will impact 20% of Ubisoft Barcelona’s total staff. Insider Gaming states that a large number of remaining staff at Ubisoft Barcelona will focus on Rainbow Six projects exclusively.

Insider Gaming also reported on the closure of one of two studios in Belgrade, Serbia. The report states that 100 employees will lose their roles.

Finally, the closure of Ubisoft’s Winnipeg, Canada studio means approximately 65 employees will lose their jobs.

Further reporting from Game Developer suggests that up to 380 employees have been laid off in this new wave.

“Ubisoft is continuing to take targeted actions to reduce costs and focus resources on its strategic priorities as part of its efforts to strengthen the business over the long term,” a spokesperson told BNN Bloomberg of the closure.
