Tell Me Why’s Lead Writer discusses trans representation & storytelling

Morgan Lockhart, Lead Writer of Tell Me Why, recently spoke to Aussie outlet Checkpoint Gaming about transgender representation and storytelling.

“In various forms of entertainment, you are starting to see that shift [towards better representation],” Lockhart told Checkpoint as part of its JOY 94.9 radio program and podcast.  “There are more and more wonderful trans characters out there. I really love the show Pose. I think the entertainment medium out there is shifting in general and it was just it was time for video games to come with it.”

While Tell Me Why is the first game to feature a transgender protagonist as one of its leads, Lockhart was careful to point out that DONTNOD’s approach was to try “to tell a good story” rather than focus on trans themes or tropes.

Checkpoint’s interview runs for close to 20 minutes and also features Clay Carmouche, Narrative Director at Xbox Publishing. It’s well worth a listen.

Tell Me Why is currently available on Windows PC and Xbox One as part of the Xbox Game Pass subscription program; its third and final chapter was released today. We’ve got an Achievement Guide and Roadmap if you’re so inclined.
