Team Asobi is keen on an Astro’s Playroom expansion or sequel

How do you feel about the PS5's new sidekick and its game?

Developer Team Asobi is keen to create an Astro’s Playroom expansion or sequel, Sony Japan studio head Nicolas Doucet has confirmed.

“If the character [of Astro] has popularity, and if it proves that people are really having fun, [an extension or sequel] could be one avenue to follow,” Doucet told EDGE Magazine (via VGC).

Doucet acknowledged the pack-in PS5 title was really a showcase for its new DualSense controller.

“But at the same time, in Team Asobi we’re always trying to come up with ideas from technology, and so there are lots of things we want to try and do around the controller,” he admitted.

Rather than another Astro title, Doucet said an entirely different style of title might be Team Asobi’s next project.

“As we make these prototypes, if one of them turns out to be a game idea in its own right, it could end up being a new direction that we take and we’ll run with it,” he continued. “So it could be one or the other, but at this moment in time I don’t really know.”

While Doucet’s focused on the DualSense, a number of people (including us!) have praised Astro’s Playroom for the way in which is embraces PlayStation’s history. As such, would you like to see more of it?

Astro’s Playroom is out now on PS5.
