Switch can save screenshots to any MicroSD card, doesn’t have to be MicroSDXC

Nintendo Switch’s share button saves screenshots, and soon video, to its internal memory by default, but these can be copied to any MicroSD card — it doesn’t have to be a MicroSDXC card, as is required for games.

Screens can be edited in the Switch’s Album app and shared directly to social media, or they can be exported to a MicroSD card and saved to a PC or Mac. We tested a tiny 1GB regular MicroSD card and a 64GB MicroSDHC card, and both were accepted by the Switch and able to save screenshots. They shouldn’t work with games, although we’re unable to test that with the eShop not launching until 3 March.

As you can see above, my Switch currently has a 1GB MicroSD card inserted — and another reminder the internal memory allows 25.9GB for internal storage, with the remainder of the included 32GB reserved for system use.

Here’s my fairly empty homescreen, with the black theme. At the moment, Switch offers either black or white as the background colour.
