Surface Book 2 twice as powerful as the original

Microsoft today detailed the Surface Book 2, saying it’s twice as powerful for gaming as the original laptop.

“We made no compromises building the most powerful Surface laptop ever,” Microsoft’s Panos Panay wrote in a new blog post. “When the team talks about Surface Book 2 they call it Beauty and the Beast. Gorgeous design meets unstoppable power in this laptop. With the latest 8th Gen Intel Core processors and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and 1060 discrete graphics options, Surface Book 2 is up to five times more powerful than the original and is twice as powerful as the latest MacBook Pro.”

The tablet/laptop hybrid is lightweight — the 13″ model is 3.38lbs and the 15″, 4.2lbs — claims 17 hours of video playback on its internal battery and is ready for Microsoft’s Windows Mixed Reality headset range.

All this power comes at a price — the lowest-end version of the 13″ Surface Book has been priced at $1,499 USD. The highest-end, with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050, will set you back $2,999 USD. Australian pricing has not yet been detailed.

The Surface Book 2 is available from 9 November.
