Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Nintendo’s fastest-selling home console game of all-time in Australia and New Zealand.
Nintendo didn’t provide any sales figures, but said launch period (first three days) sales were 80% higher than those for Super Mario Odyssey, which is one of three Switch games to ship more than 10 million copies, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Nintendo did release US sales figures, where Super Smash Bros. Ultimate shipped more than 3 million copies during its first 11 days.
Keen-eyed readers will note this record-breaking feat specifically pertains to home consoles; we’re talking the NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, GameCube, Wii, Wii U and Switch. Nintendo confirmed to Stevivor that 2016’s Pokémon Sun and Moon is the fastest-selling game across Australia and New Zealand, when also including handheld platforms.
Pokémon Sun and Moon sold 240,000 copies in Australia and New Zealand during its first 14 days on-sale. Since launch, an estimated 16.14 million copies have been sold worldwide, and it is believed to be the third best-selling 3DS game (narrowly behind Mario Kart 7 and Pokémon X and Y).
