Steam Deck OLED coming November (but not in Australia)

Drat.

The Steam Deck OLED was announced today, offering up the portability of the Steam Deck combined with a shiny new HDR OLED screen.

The Steam Deck OLED also sports a longer-lasting battery, faster WiFi, and additional improvements. Valve says the OLED’s batter has between 30-50% more life, and that’s combined by an OLED display that draws down less power and a more power-efficient AMD APU.

Wifi 6E will also increase bandwidth and lower latency; download speeds could reach up to three times faster than the original Steam Deck. It also weighs 5% less than the original Steam Deck, coming in at 30g.

Finally, the Steam Deck OLED will boast updated thermals and a larger fan to keep things cooler. It will become available to consumers later this month on 17 November.

The fancy schmancy Steam Deck OLED isn’t available in Australia, but those in the USA, Canada and other supported countries will be able to pick up a Steam Deck OLED 512GB model for $549 USD, or a 1TB model for $649 USD. The original Steam Deck has also been issued with ap price drop — the Steam Deck 512GB LCD is now $449 USD, the 256GB LCD now $399 USD, and the 64GB LCD now $349 USD.

  • Closer to Australia, Komodo, the licensed provider of the Steam Deck to Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan, has also confirmed availability. Here’s what a Steam Deck LCD or Steam Deck OLED will set people in those supported countries back:
  • Steam Deck 256GB LCD:JPY 59,800 / KRW 589,000 / HKD 3,288 / TWD 13,380
  • Steam Deck 512GB OLED:JPY 84,800 / KRW 839,000 / HKD 4,588 / TWD 18,680
  • Steam Deck 1TB OLED:JPY 99,800 / KRW 989,000 / HKD 5,488 / TWD 21,980
