Sony opens up access to the PS4’s seventh processing core

Sony has opened access to the PS4’s seventh processing core, allowing developers to access additional power when creating games.

A post on the Beyond3D forums noted the amendments in the latest changelog notes for the PS4’s FMOD audio middleware. The changelog reads, “LowLevel API – PS4 – Added FMOD_THREAD_CORE6 to allow access to the newly unlocked 7th core.”

Eurogamer has confirmed the changes through it’s contacts, but advises that existing games won’t take advantage of the newly unlocked core unless an update from the title’s developer is released.

More power can only be a good thing for upcoming games. Let’s hope developers make use of it.
