Sony invests in Discord, will intregrate into PlayStation by 2022

Take that, Microsoft!

Sony has invested in a minority stake of Discord and will integrate the service into PlayStation by 2022, it has today declared.

Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan announced the news today, but was light on specifics.

“Together, our teams are already hard at work connecting Discord with your social and gaming experience on PlayStation Network,” Ryan wrote in an update. “Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.”

A recent report by the Wall Street Journal says that Microsoft was in talks to acquire Discord back in March as part of a $10 billion USD deal. Discord reportedly walked away from the deal with a desire to stay independent.

We’ll let you know more about the PlayStation and Discord partnership as news becomes available.
